Presenter 1: Good morning, you’ve joined us on ‘Wake up Live’ this morning; that was Cee Lo Green with ‘Forget You,' a great start to the morning don’t you think?
Presenter 2: I certainly think so ….! A new favourite of mine.
Presenter 1: …We have the latest on those headlining news stories as well as an exclusive interview with the sister of Katie Price with the latest on her shocking break up with Alex Reid, and that's all coming up on todays show!
Presenter 2: Yes not forgetting the all important weather and travel update, helping your morning to run as smoothly as possible.
Presenter 1: Talking of celebs, have you heard about the latest X factor rumours?
Presenter 2: I did see something in the paper this morning regarding Cheryl Cole, I didn't get a chance to read it though...
Presenter 1: Well from what I read, its rumoured that she and possibly Simon as well are ditching the British X factor and will just be focusing on the American one...and its rumoured that Nicole Sherzinger and Adele are potential replacements? Not sure it would be the same without Simon's honesty though?
Presenter 1: Wow, I guess we'll have to wait and see! But as always we’d love to hear from you with your views and song requests, a lucky one of you will be chosen at random to choose the tune of the morning.
Jingle…
Presenter 1: So we’ll throw you straight into today’s news with …..
Sound affects with a serious tone to introduce the news and set the scene (it is a serious matter)
Presenter 2: Good morning. It was announced late last night that the body of seventeen year old Christina Nodes was found, police discovered her body outside St Sebastian’s church in Crawford. They are asking that anybody with any information, however relevant they believe it to be to come forward and help with the investigation. Her family released a statement early this morning that stated 'anyone that knew Christina would know what a loving girl she was and the incredible motivation she had for everything in life, we know that her death will have impacted an incredibly large amount of peoples lives and we can speak for them as well as ourselves in asking that everything possible is done to find her killer.'
The destructive Earthquake that took place in Christchurch, New Zealand on Monday 21st February has caused devastation to the country. With the death toll rising to 98. The Prime Minister, John Key has warned that this number could end up exceeding at least 200. The Canterbury Television building sadly came tumbling down during the quake, it is likely that there are still up to 120 bodies trapped inside. Hundreds of families remain in devastation.
Just down the road in Arborfield there has been a devastating fire at moores stables, the cause of the fire remains unknown. No deaths occurred however three people were seriously injured while trying to rescue the horses, the stables is estimated to have gone up in flames at approximately 4:13am on Wednesday morning. The Fire and police force have reason to suggest the cause of the fire could have been intentional however this is not yet confirmed. They have asked that anybody with any information to come forward.
The mayor of Crowthorne's 25 year anniversary of being mayor will take place on Tuesday 1st March; there will be celebrations in Crowthorne high street to celebrate! The high street will be closed to vehicles however diversions will be clearly marked. Residents of Crowthorne and local Volunteers will be holding stalls with games and tombola's to add to the celebrations! The mayor's speech will take place at 1pm.
Bracknells crime rates were reviewed by the police and council earlier this week; although the rates have improved dramatically since last year they are still a cause for concern. Compared with other local areas such as Wokingham, Bracknell has almost double the amount of car thefts, break ins and drink driving. The council and police will be working together to put together projects and plans to try and improve these problems.
Controversy has been caused in the Crowthorne and Sandhurst area over application for almost 6,000 new houses to be built. Residents argue that it is a small area, and the facilities needed for this amount of potential residents are just not available. Concerned parents question if schooling is going to be fairly considered, Crowthorne currently only has one secondary school as does Sandhurst, both of which are already over subscribed every year. Others argue that it is already 'impossible' to get appointments at the local doctors surgery and they demand that this is also taken into consideration. The council will be making their final decision next week on 3rd March.
That's it for now, you've had your news update read to you by....
Jingle...
Presenter 1: We now have *insert presenters name* coming at you live from the streets of Crowthorne getting your opinions on the new build!
Presenter 3: Hey guys I'm standing outside the place where developers have proposed to build the 6000 new houses, with a group of local residents. Sorry, could I have a minute (talking to member of public) to get your views on the new builds and how it will effect you as a resident and the town?
Member of Public: I for one am disgusted at their plans to build up our area with 6000 new homes after all the new flats they've recently built. Crowthorne has always been a small, quaint town where everyone knows each other and this development will bring thousands of new residents to Crowthorne and it will destroy what this town is all about.
Presenter 3: So you feel strongly opposed to the new plans?
Member of Public: Yes, very much so.
Presenter 3: Thank you for your thoughts, and how do you think this development will effect your town if it goes through? (To another member of public)
Member of public 2: It will just destroy us as a community! Their is simply not enough space for us all to move around! The traffic will become unbearable on our small roads, and yes it'd help local businesses which is always good, but the cons outweigh the pros on this one! They simply can't go through with it!
Presenter 3: Well that seems to be the general feel here in Crowthorne, thank you for your time! Back to you Live in the studio.Transition music...
Presenter 1: Here's your weather update with.... The rest of the morning is looking to stay cold and dry with clouds forming during the afternoon, top temperatures today of 13 degrees. Expect strong wind and rainfalls over night with the rain continuing throughout tomorrow morning. Do be prepared for wet weather and gale-like winds. Over the next few days we are expecting some heavy downpours, we will be keeping you up to date with official met office weather warnings.
Presenter 2: Now over to ... for the showbiz news...
Presenter 4: Good morning Live listeners! Late yesterday afternoon Victoria Beckham released her official statement announcing her and David's fourth child will be a much anticipated girl. I'll keep you updated on her pregnancy as it develops.
Another top story we're hearing about this morning is Lady GaGa's new raunchy music video for her new number 1 hit Born This Way from her upcoming album. The video lasts for over 7 minutes and consists of GaGa prancing around in her underwear. However her new toned physique has raised a few eyebrows as she must have been working harder than we all thought to achieve the perfect body!Colin Firth won four awards at last nights Oscars. When accepting one of his awards he joked about needing the loo, which is ironic as at the after party, the loo attendant ran out after him holding his Best Actor award for Kings Speech after he left it by the sink! Poor Colin must be overwhelmed with all his awards and I can easily understand how he's misplacing them!
I caught up with Katie Price's sister Sophie yesterday to talk about the recent rumours circling Katie and Alex Reids recent split. Here's what was said:
Presenter: Hi Sophie! So you're going to give us the inside scoop on the latest between your sister Katie and Alex Reid. Before rumours start spreading Sophie would like to make it clear that she is here on Katie’s consent. So Sophie, tell us, how did this all start?
Sophie: Well, Katie wants to make it clear that this did not start off as a messy break up, things just weren’t the same as they were at the start of the relationship. I think they both realised that this, was perhaps a marriage that was rushed into.
Presenter: So the couple are no longer living together?
Sophie: No, I believe that Alex is back living with his parents. They did attempt to make things work, I think Katie saw another side to Alex as things started to get tough.
Presenter: Can you expand on that for us Sophie?
Sophie: I can tell you that, as many of you may have noticed; Alex was loving the showbiz life, it was an opening for him and a way to further his career. Obviously Katie knew she was giving Alex opportunities when she first got together with him, but she didn’t expect him to be as self indulged in the media as he ended up being.
Presenter: Are you referring to the story that has been in the media recently to do with him and Juniors shoot?
Sophie: Yes, that’s a good example and is a true report. Katie had no idea of this shoot until it was released in ‘Hello’ last week, it was very much seen as a way for Alex to get the public and press on his side – he knows very well how Katie feels about the kids being exposed, she no longer wants it for them due to them growing up and it effecting their lives.
Presenter: Is that not a bit hypocritical of her though, they’ve all been exposed up until now?
Sophie: No, Katie and Peter made a decision with their management team that now is the time to pull the kids away – up until now it hasn’t affected them but with the split and now Katie and Alex’s split its not right for it to link to them.
Presenter: Okay Sophie, thank you for your time and all the best to Katie and Alex with their futures.
Presenter 1: And that was ... with the ShowBiz News! We're now gunna hit you with the live travel updates!
Presenter 2: There are slight delays on the M25 towards London, adding approximately 20 minutes to your journey, so watch out for that. We've also had a few callers ringing in and reporting an accident on the Sandhurst-Crowthorne bypass, we've been told there are emergency services on the scene. So we advice you not to take this route, as it is quite disruptive. That's all for now, but we'll keep you updated!
Presenter 1: You've been calling in with your song requests and we're going to answer your calls in just a second, stay with us on Wake Up Live!
Jingle...
Presenter 1: Okay so you've been ringing in with your song requests and now we've got a caller on the line. Hello Sammie from Aldershot, you're with us live!
Caller: Hi guys! How are you this morning?
Presenter 2: We're good thanks Sammie, and how are you? You sound bubbly this morning!
Caller: I am bubbly this morning! Just found out I only have to work half a day today! So I am loving it!
Presenter 1: Wish I was that lucky! We're gunna make your morning just that bit better! What can we play for you Sammie?
Caller: Oh I'd love to hear Price Tags by Jessie J, such a feel good song!
Presenter 1: Okay, we'll play that for you in a just a minute then Sammie, thanks for calling and have a good morning!
Presenter 2: Ah I still can't believe that Colin Firth left his Oscar on the loo!
Presenter 1: If I had found it I'd've put it straight up on eBay! Sure it must be a collectors item!
Presenter 2: I'm sure it is! Anyway this week we're giving a way an all inclusive trip for 2 to Rome where you'll stay in a luxury 4 Star hotel and we'll be giving you £1000 spending money! Definitely the trip of a lifetime! All you've got to do is answer 10 questions correctly! But if you fail to answer all 10 questions correctly you win our constellation prize which is 2 tickets to see The Beauty Manifesto curtesy of South Hill Park.
Presenter 1: Wonderful, wonderful prizes we're giving away this week. To get involved just ring our number and we'll choose a contestant just after 8 this morning! Now it's time to play the fantastic Jessie J- Price Tags, which is this weeks number 1 in the Top 40. You're listening to Wake up Live! We'll be back after this!

Audience Feedback
"I think you should use Transmission because it sounds technological and smooth. I also think you should use 'Radio' after Transmission making it 'Transmission Radio'"
"I think you should use Beam because the radio 'beams' information to listeners, it is also a catchy word as it is short and easy to remember"
"I think you should use beam because it is short and snappy and sticks in the listeners mind; it also sounds chirpy"
"I think you should use Live because it links to the fact that the radio is live and it seems appropriate for radio. I also think it should be 'Radio Live' rather than 'Live Radio' or 'Live Berkshire'"
We also carried out a vote amongst 20 randomly selected people and it was decided that we would use 'Radio Live' as our station name. We also liked this as the word live will be easy to link into our scripts as it is very associated with the radio.
Using our radio station name we've decided to name our morning show "Wake Up Live".

Radio Names
Live
This radio name suggests an upbeat, fast moving radio show as it's very to the point. This would be good as we decided on a morning show and the show itself needs to be upbeat to wake people up in the morning, this fits with our decided genre too.
Airwaves
The name airwaves links in with the radio theme, however it could easily be misinterpreted as an aeroplane company or as a popular chewing gum brand. As we want to have a unique show this wouldn't be ideal as the name has already been branded and is known among the public already.
Play
This name has connotations to it about music being played (people clicking the play button on their mp3 players etc) and also a fun place to be. This is more ideal as it is upbeat and fun, however you could also interpret it as a younger target audience and perhaps more of a childrens show.
Transmission
Transmission is a good name as it links in with the theme of radio. It is original and is quite edgy which would create a good feel for our radio station, however it is quite long which may not sound good on the radio when trying to be quick and upbeat.
Beam
Beam radio is short and snappy which fits in with the genre of the radio show and creates a fast pace to the show which is good for a morning show.
As all of the shows need to be local we can always add the area name to the end of the show e.g Heart Berkshire is a show off of Heart.

Ideas- evening radio

Jingles
For an evening show the show jingle changes for being upbeat and fast to being more mellow and slower, they also tend to be longer. This is because at this time the listeners are driving home from work or settling down after a long day and the jingle matches the mood of the listener and helps them to wind down. If we decided to do an evening show we would have to take this into consideration when making our jingle. The jingle should also fit into the genre of the show, this helps to create a structured show with a theme which the listener fully understands.
News
Evening news tends to have more content as it is at the end of the day it allows people to hear the news which has taken place during the day. Travel at this time is also very important as people tend to be commuting during the evenings. It is important to order the news so it has a proper structure, for example headline news should be said first as this is the most desired, then followed with lesser stories, such as local stories from the day.
Presenters
During evening shows there tends to be one presenter as people don't expect to have friendly chat between presenters at this time. This is important as we would have to decide which gender to chose and this could restrict the audience. If the show has one main presenter then we would have to get specialist presenters in for segments such as the news or travel as the allows some variety in the show.
Features
Evening shows tend to be more relaxed and the presenters usually ask questions to the listeners and ask them to ring and text in and then share some of their view points on air. Main features like celebrity interviews and competitions are generally done in the morning or afternoon as they are less appealing to listeners in the evening.
Sounds
Sounds are less commonly used during evening shows as they don't really fit the mood of the shows. However the jingle is still played regularly, but if sounds are played inbetween segments they have a tendancy to be longer and slower. This fits in with the mood of the show and creates a relaxed feel within the show. To create a vox pop for an evening show it would be easy to create an outside atmosphere with rush-hour traffic sound effects in the background. The presenter would talk louder as they would be trying to talk over the traffic and this creates the right feel for the listener.

Ideas- Morning radio

How research will inform planning
Allowed us to see which was the most popular time to listen to the radio, mornings and evenings, this means that when planning our radio show we will choose between these times because a radio show at this time would have the largest audience. Questionnaires also allow us to see what people like most during radio shows. This means that when putting together we should take into account that people like 2 presenters and they also like music. As commuters listen to the radio, we should take into account the travel and report this during our news bulletin.
Media Artefacts
Using the media artefacts we can establish how other shows run and how we could incorporate these types of things into our show. For example most shows seem to have a male and female presenter. This makes it more neutral and widens the audience viewing; if we did this it would have the same effect on our show. During the news some shows had a backing tune to add seriousness to the news, this is important to think about when planning our news bulletin as our use of sounds is essential. Listening to the jingles on different shows allowed me to analyse the style of jingle appropriate to the show, for example the morning shows tended to have upbeat, lively jingles to wake people up in the morning and be cheery, however evening shows tended to have a slower, longer jingle to allow a “wind down” feel.
Product Placement
Product placement allowed me to look in detail at which time would be best for our radio show. Peak times for news seem to be when most people tune into the radio, which means that morning and evening would be the best time for a show. Also from product placement I found out that the news tends to be longer and more detailed/ frequent during peak hours (morning and evening). This is important as we are planning a news bulletin.

Media Artefact 3- Eagle Radio
When I tuned into the afternoon show on Eagle Radio with Kim Robson, there was a traffic update being played. The male broadcaster was reading out traffic updates that listeners had called in to tell him about. This is a local radio, and this applies to the local area which people were travelling in so is therefore specific information which the listeners will be interested in as it applies to them. He then proceeded to give his name at the end, creating a formal feeling around the bulletin, this then linked into the Eagle radio jingle, which establishes a clear branding and keeps the show running smoothly as there aren’t any gaps or pauses. This then led into a song being played, when the song came to an end a voiceover saying “Eagle Radio” was played.
Kim Robson (the show presenter) then said “coming up in the next 15 minutes” and said that the news, weather and another song by Ellie Goulding would be played. This allows the listener to know what they will be hearing while they are listening to the show. She only mentions the next 15 minutes as people tend to listen to the radio for travelling and they may only be tuned in for a short period of time. This also creates an importance around the news and weather, showing it’s an important part of the show and that people like to know that it’s coming up. These types of updates are important to share with the listeners and I should take this into account when planning my radio show.
Mrs D
Product Placement
When I asked the question “When do you listen to the radio?” the largest response was whilst travelling. I did not ask for their mode of travel, as I presume this takes into account different types of commuting. For example radio is predominantly listened to in the car, however can now be easily accessed through phones as different radio stations bring out applications for phones. This means that people can listen to the radio portably, possibly on the train or bus. People also listen to the radio whilst working, radio is less commonly brought due to its accessibility on the internet. Many of the popular radio stations have the “Listen Live” feature on their web pages increasing their audience and viewers.
When asked why they listen to a particular station the majority of their answers were due to the music played on the station. However people also said they listened to particular shows because they like the presenter(s) on the show. This shows that people like having the same structure repeated to them, and this continuity is why they tune into the specific show. This means that in order to create a likeable radio show, the presenter must be a friendly and bubbly person able to communicate well across the radio. 2 presenters was the most popular amount of presenters that people like to listen to and I must take this into consideration when planning my show. Shows such as Heart Breakfast have a male and female presenter to make the show more gender neutral, appealing to a larger audience. This would need to be looked at in more detail when planning our radio show.
As our show is going to be a news bulletin the presenter must be able to get information across the audience clearly and easily. Whilst listening to other radio shows they like to say “You’re up to date” after the news. The news, weather and sometimes travel tends to be repeated every 15 minutes on radio shows. This allows the latest news to be transmitted to people but also ensures that everyone knows the latest as everyone tunes in at different times it reduces the chance of someone missing the news.
Most radio stations have to find funding for themselves. Most do this through advertising. People pay the radio station for air time to run their adverts and that’s why most radio stations have adverts between presenting and songs, similar to TV having adverts between shows. However the BBC is funded through television licensing which means that they rarely have to play adverts.

Media Artefact 2- BBC Radio Berkshire
The opening of the clip I listened to started off with Anne Diamond (the presenter) introducing herself and the show, “You’re listening to real life stories with Anne Diamond on BBC Radio Berkshire,” this informs the listener what show they’re listening to and what the show is about. This is repeated throughout the show to make sure new listeners know the station and to reinforce the show so that if listeners like it they can tune in again the next day. The introduction then led into a song which was followed by a voice over saying “BBC Radio Berkshire with Anne Diamond” which was then immediately followed by the BBC Radio Berkshire jingle which is used throughout the day on the station. This is important as it brands the radio station and is known by all of it's listeners.
Anne Diamond then talks to the male Sports presenter as he updates people with the sports news, this adds male appeal to a generally female based audience. They discuss the sports which makes the news bulletin seem more personal and casual and takes away the normal formality of a news bulletin. This is good as it makes the show more relatable to the audience as it becomes more of a gossip, yet still keeping professionalism. This suits the audience as they feel they can join in with opinions of the news etc.
Anne then has a telephone interview with someone from Reading College about sexist behaviour and humour which links to the current news headline involving Sky Sports. This opens up the news bulletin to more of a discussion and again removes the normal formality of the news as it becomes an open topic and people ring in and get involved wanting to share and discuss their views on the news topics.

Media Artefact 1- Heart Berkshire
At the opening of the clip that I listened to there was an introductory jingle with the name of the show in, which makes it clear to the listener what they are listening to and what to expect during the show, this allows repeated listeners to build up a familiarity to the show and will make them tune in more regularly. It was an upbeat jingle which fits the genre of the show, as it’s a morning show it needs to be upbeat to get people up and feeling good about their day. Majority of the listeners will be adults getting up for work, so they will need to have this uplifting jingle to listen to in the morning.
After the jingle, there was a news bulletin including the news and weather by a female presenter. Having a female news presenter makes the show more gender neutral as the main presenter, Toby, is a male. This will widen the audience of listeners. There was background music during the bulletin to make the segment seem more serious, however the focus of piece was on the voice and the information being passed from presenter to listener. This was then followed by a few adverts and then a male presenter introducing himself and the show and then saying “coming up” and listing things for the listeners to expect on the show. This repetition is important as listeners can tune in at any time and need to know what show they're listening to. Letting the listeners know what is coming up on the show is also important as they can decide whether the content of the show suits them, making everything more structured.
This was then followed with another upbeat jingle which said “feel good music” fitting the show as it’s a morning show and saying “this is Heart” to repeat the name of the show to the listeners, after this music began to play, I want you back by the Jackson 5 which is an upbeat and cheery tune, further fitting the morning show to wake up the audience and get them ready for their day.

Specific Questionnaire Analysis 2
Most people listen to the radio when they're travelling. This shows me that many people listen to the radio while commuting.
Q2. What time of the day are you most likely to listen to the radio?
Most people said they listen to the radio between 3-5PM, then 6-10 PM and between 6-10AM. I can use this information to decide what type of show to do for my radio piece.
Q3. When doing this, what genre of music do you like to listen to?
Most people said their preferred genre of music to listen to on the radio is Rock, closely followed by Dance and then Indie. This means people enjoy upbeat tunes to listen to when listening to the radio.
Specific Questionnaire Analysis
When asked how many presenters they preferred, majority of people agreed that 2 was their preferred amount of presenters. This suggests when planning my radio that 2 presenters would be the preferred amount.
Q5. What is your favourite part of a radio show?
The most popular response to this question was music. This means that a popular station must play a likeable genre of music and music which is of popular demand. The second favourite option was special guests, this suggests that listeners like to hear interviews with artists, and actors etc. Nobody specified any other areas of a radio station that they liked in the open question.
Q6. What radio stations do you listen to?
When I asked 35 people what radio stations they listen to the most popular answer was BBC Radio 1 then joint second was Heart and Magic.
Q7. What attracts you to a specific radio station?
The majority of people said they listen to specific radio channels due to the choice of music that the radio stations play and also the presenters. From this extra information I can conclude that BBC Radio 1, Heart and Magic play popular music and have good presenters which means I should listen to these radio stations to decide how to make my radio piece likeable to the audience.
